Four months into the SHAPE ReClaimed program, I almost quit. I was absolutely devastated when the scale popped from 298 to 302 for no reason. I had been down this road so many times before. Dr. Heather Elton and Melinda, her office manager, would not let me quit.
That day, I repeated two quotes I have continued to repeat throughout my journey:
A lifetime of failed weight loss attempts versus the past 20.5 months on SHAPE ReClaimed. Today, I begin maintenance and weigh less and am healthier than when I graduated high school. SHAPE succeeded where every other program, doctors, dietitians, and weight loss “experts” failed.
I started the SHAPE ReClaimed program after seeing the changes in a friend. My initial hope was that maybe I could reduce the nearly unbearable pain I was living with, even if I didn't really release weight. One month in, virtually all my pain was gone. I could walk normally for the first time in months. Swelling in my knees was gone. Joint pain, gone. Skin looks brighter and much more youthful. People tell me my eyes are brighter. My mental fog (which I wasn’t aware I even had) is gone — so much so, that after 35 years, I’m finally finishing my college degree. And I can chase my granddaughters!
I became a patient of Dr. Pam’s after a success story from my sister who lives in another state and is working with another SHAPE ReClaimed practitioner. I have been hampered with several health challenges which have limited my ability to enjoy life. I have severe fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and irritable bowel syndrome. I had also had a double mastectomy and reconstruction 5 years earlier with a cancer diagnosis. My husband also has cancer.
I have also been dealing with depression which Dr. Pam believes has made my pain levels worse. I have been going to medical doctors and they continue to put me on more medications including trazadone, escitalopram, aripiprazole, clonazepam, acebutolol and two different medications for my thyroid.
My sister and mother both have fibromyalgia and CFS, and she shared that her pain had been subsiding and was feeling better overall after starting the SHAPE ReClaimed program. I wanted to only release about 10 to 15 pounds, so weight was not as big an issue as my health conditions.
When initially starting, I released 6 pounds and a lot of bloat. I felt like I was detoxifying. I have been on the protocol for a few months and am proud to say that I have released 17.5 pounds. More importantly than that, I feel much better with less muscle pain. I have not returned to my medical doctor as of yet, I have an appointment with her the end of July. I am hoping to be able to cut back on my medications, as I feel like I do not need all of them to get me through the day! We also will be doing some blood work and am interested in seeing where my inflammation level is.
I have also been able to get outside and do some walking, whereas before I would have been in too much pain both during and certainly afterwards. Dr. Pam has been supportive and kind, but is very much a realist and let me know from the beginning that I had to be responsible for what I was putting in my mouth.
Overall, I am thankful and grateful to the makers of SHAPE ReClaimed, I feel like I am starting a new phase of my life.
SHAPE ReClaimed success! So far, I have lost 57 lbs. and many inches. I also have to go shopping for clothes that fit.
That stuff is obvious and expected. It is the unexpected that is so awesome. I call this the “It’s nice” list.
It’s nice when…
This journey has changed my life! Right now, I am down 45 pounds and I’m off medications for thyroid and high blood pressure. I have adjusted to a different way of life. I feel better than I have in 20-plus years. I am at a weight that I have not seen in many years, and my health is so much better. I walk every day now and took up golf this summer. I have a newfound confidence in myself. I cannot even imagine going back to my old eating habits. No processed foods will enter my house!
The other day while shopping with my daughter, I found a pair of knee high boots that fit. I felt like dancing around the store. My daughter laughed because I was so excited. But it is those little things that make you feel good.
I am a believer! I have had many friends join SHAPE since seeing how well the program has worked for me. It makes me so happy to see others joining a healthy lifestyle.
I first heard about SHAPE ReClaimed from a coworker who had excellent results. Though I already led an active lifestyle, I was plagued by inflammation. I had body aches and pains, as well as some stubborn weight from pregnancy. I was hungry all the time, no matter what I ate, and I had constant fatigue, low energy and some bloating.
My initial experience with SHAPE was difficult as I adjusted to the altered amounts and types of food. Though I considered myself to be a “healthy eater,” I loved carbs and sugar. During the first few weeks, I experienced dizziness and fatigue. These were helped with the careful modification of food types and amounts by my practitioner.
I released about 11 pounds total but noticed a large difference in my energy levels and a new clarity from reduced brain fog. Due to the change in my overall health and dropping a few pounds, I was able to significantly reduce my blood pressure medication and since have felt great.
SHAPE has given me a new outlook on my relationship with food and the effect inflammation can have on my overall health.
I am a 53-year-old mother to six beautiful daughters, and a Meme’ to four grandsons. I have been married to my soulmate, Mark, since 1984. For a very long time, I have been very unhappy with my weight, which was reaching dangerously close to 300 lb. On my 5′ 10″ frame, it wasn’t really noticeable, but I knew it!
My mom was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer in her mid-50s, and I knew that I wanted to do whatever I could to stay/get as healthy as I could. I thought that I could deter my increasing weight by exercising, which had always worked for me in the past, but absolutely nothing worked!
I learned about SHAPE ReClaimed in 2013. I was not ready at that time (the cost was a big deterrent for me), and I knew that I would have to stop living the life that I had been accustomed to (lining up my mini-chocolate bars up like cord wood and my bags of low-salt chips — because they were “healthy”).
I have a very good friend who was doing SHAPE and she was VERY successful. I was intrigued by her dedication, and after a time, I decided that I was ready to change my life. I was SO scared! I am not going to lie. When I had my phone conference with my practitioner before starting SHAPE, I was very depressed to know that my life would never be the same, as I need to stay away from dairy, grains AND sugar! YIKES!
I started SHAPE on National Donut Day (I can’t make this up folks!), and initially I tried to track my success with a graph. I was shocked beyond belief to see the success that I was having with SHAPE! Thankfully my friend kept track of my success through pictures, or else I would have never believed it myself without the visual proof!
My family was/is very supportive of me, and my 9-year-old will say that something “is not for you, Mommy.” Constantly, my family tells me just how proud they are of me. When school started in September 2017, people didn’t recognize me! They thought I was a new staff member.
I thought my transformation was done, but NO! SHAPE wasn’t done with me! I continue to reshape, and I’ve actually had people go by me not realizing that it was me. I recently finished a play in which I played a nun (again, I can’t make this up), and people who would come to see the play remarked about how incredible I looked!
Thank you, SHAPE, for saving my life! I don’t get up with a feeling of dread or a droopy belly. I marvel at my continuing transformation. I have released a total of 80+ lbs, and I am not afraid to see Thanksgiving come. Bring it on!
I am a 53-year-old male who has been employed in ministry at a local church for 15 years. I have been married to my wife for 25.5 years, and I’m a father to a terrific 10-year-old son we adopted eight years ago in Ukraine. I am also currently having a love affair with SHAPE ReClaimed.
I’m going to be very transparent in hopes of encouraging others. My life has taken a dramatic turn over the past few months. I have been a “full-figured guy” since college. I really enjoy being the cook of the house, at extended family gatherings or for others. I enjoyed tasty food, and I was comfortable there.
However, as my (then 9-year-old) son Donny got more active in different activities last summer, I was having trouble keeping up. This past summer I hit a record weight: 283 lbs. My knees were requiring more ibuprofen each day. I became content at Little League season in taking a bench coach role so I didn’t have to stand on the field for 90 minutes and keep up with 9-year-olds. But as fall rolled in, my mind started to examine my health. Obviously, I wasn’t taking care of the “temple” God had entrusted to me, nor was I taking the best care for my family.
During the summer and fall of 2016, I began talking to some local friends who were getting healthy and releasing their excess weight. There was a common thread to their stories. They were working with an RN who doubles as a nutritionist and cheerleader (in my opinion). After researching the program and talking to my general practitioner, the only thing to lose seemed to be my weight. I discussed it with my wife, Barb, and invited her to also begin this journey. It was going to work so much better together.
On October 15, 2016, our transformation began. No shakes, no chemicals, no yoga but lots of dietary knowledge and changes with some sacrifices and prayers for results. What occurred in the first few months amazed me and a lot of people when they saw me. I do get the stares and the questions concerning my health. Praise God, I’m healthy! I understand the questions and appreciate their concerns. Most people have never seen me this thin. I don’t remember it either, really. I always had a reason for being heavy: It was inherited, I loved to cook, I loved to eat, my jaw wasn’t wired shut, etc. I realized the excuses had to stop, and I needed to take control.
A few months in, I had shed 40 pounds. The lifestyle change, the eating habits, the menu items all were changed. The results were evident. For a person who is not used to seeing results, this gets pretty exciting! And I still love to cook. In December, we purchased an Instant Pot and an air fryer. I have discovered that stores carry organic items and that you don’t have to cook with sugar at every meal. I laugh and say I can prep cauliflower 14 different ways. I can still eat chicken/beef/fish every day and believe that healthy can taste good. We still enjoy taco salads, pot roast, cod, shepherd’s pie and so much more. I lost four pounds while enjoying Hawaii for 10 days. It can be done.
In mid-December, it was time for the routine blood workup (some skinny folks don’t know that heavy people have to be monitored for bad, fatty stuff in the blood and also heart disease). I had been in contact with my family doctor, so he wasn’t shocked when he saw me and I stepped on the scale. After that blood draw, I went from six prescription medications per day down to two. Oh yes, that triglycerides number, those fatty little dudes were streaming out of my body. That number dropped by 60, and we dropped that drug! None of this was much of a surprise to my doctor. He had been telling me this for years, but who wants to listen to their doctor? Definitely a non-scale victory!
The first week of January, I went clothes shopping. I knew my pants were baggy, but I had no idea how sloppy. I went into the dressing room with jeans a size smaller. Shockingly, they slid off me too. I went back to the rack and got a waistline two sizes smaller. They were loose but stayed on. Something still didn’t feel right. I began to look through the rack again. I suddenly saw something different, the label said “regular fit.” I thought all jeans came as “relaxed fit” or carpenter-style. Well excuse me, I had lost some baggage from my trunk! I had dropped from a size 48 to a size 44. My shirt size had also dropped from 3XL to an XXL. What an exciting day!
As the new year rolled around, I also wondered if I could shed the number of pounds that equaled my age by my birthday. I DID IT! I turned 53 and had released 53 pounds!
Fast forward another month. For the first time, my BMI moved me from the “obese” class to the “overweight” class. WOW! I sold a great bunch of 2XL and 3XL shirts, I was now down to wearing an XL! The 48 waist jeans in the closet headed out as I had bought those 44s in January, then I hit 42 in February, and in July I was down to a size 40! Feels a lot different!
About my wife who joined me on this journey: She is doing very well, too. She is patient as I try new recipes, and as I adjust them, she tries them again. I don’t like bodily injury, and I enjoy sharing my marriage with her, therefore I won’t disclose any numbers of hers.
My son turned 10 in February 2017. He has always been a “taster” of new food. There are a few things he doesn’t like in our plan. However, I remind myself that he is a kid who is burning off a lot of energy.
I don’t know where my journey will end. Weight release slowed as summer became more hectic. I thank God daily for the health benefits I am enjoying. I also realize it may always be a struggle. My mind goes back to a man I saw lose weight several years ago. Whenever someone would ask how he was losing it, he would say (I paraphrase), “My mouth and my stomach are the culprits, they got me into this shape, now we are working together to get out of it.”
I now stand at about 72 pounds gone. The amazing part to me is measured when I look at our son. At his last doctor’s appointment, my son weighed 71 pounds! I have released the weight of an entire 10-year old child! I know that sounds a bit bizarre, but it certainly makes a visual! No wonder I feel so much better and have gotten off 70% of my prescriptions.
If you’re struggling, keep the course. Find your SHAPE! Make a difference for yourself and those around you. If you have specific questions, ask. I love to share this program, and I feel blessed that others shared with me.
Part of my DNA, both professionally and personally, is that I get excited about helping people! That’s why I volunteered to take a bigger public role for SHAPE. On the first Monday of the month, I head up a SHAPE Family Group. We are a SHAPE family. I hate the term “support group!” We have a common issue, but nothing to be ashamed of. Because we are a family, I call these meetings “Family Time.” I’m excited about our family. Together we can strengthen each other, support each other and discover our new SHAPE!
Years of yo-yo dieting, menopause and gradual weight gain took control of my 60-year-old body. I had been a competitive cyclist and runner (albeit not the fastest runner in the world), but it had gotten to the point that every step I ran was painful. I had regressed to two-minute running/one-minute walking for my long-distance runs. Each of those running minutes was agony. In January 2016, I “ran” my slowest half-marathon ever in just under three hours. On top of that, I had a closet full of clothes I could no longer wear. I was depressed, tired and feeling hopeless. I had hit my wall.
My wonderful practitioner had sent a postcard about SHAPE ReClaimed but, at the time, I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t ready to fail yet another “diet.” But eventually, I knew that I had to give it a try.
I started my SHAPE ReClaimed journey with a most-supportive husband at my side. Even though he was skeptical about the lack of carbs, I told him to not worry about it but to trust the plan. He was the family chef and was very careful to cook to the guidelines in the guidebook. I was so fortunate to have him on my team and not trying to sabotage my efforts. In just the first couple of weeks, I was feeling so good, I continued on and reached my goal. In my mind, it was a miracle.
In January of 2017, I ran that same half marathon 34 pounds lighter and 29 minutes faster than a year earlier. That was a victory moment. This program has ingrained in me what I should be eating. This is not a diet, but a lifestyle. This is the ONLY time I have ever felt that way about a plan. I am happy to say that I have managed to stay within three pounds of my goal weight. It takes weighing/measuring and commitment to eat healthily, but it is worth it to have ReClaimed my SHAPE and my health again. I thank God that this program is available and that my wonderful practitioner, Dr. Shelley Radosta, made it available to us in Louisiana.
Some Non-Scale Victories (NSVs):
I began my SHAPE journey on May 21, 2015. It was one of the smartest and most empowering decisions of my adult life. Here’s why:
I am a sugar addict and recovering binge eater. For as long as I can remember, I used sugar and food as a distraction, as a way to escape and numb myself. That’s how I “dealt” with my problems — by shoving sugar and food down my throat. I used my financial problems, relationship issues, family issues, trauma, sadness, feelings of worthlessness, anxiety and PMS as excuses to eat whatever I wanted as much as I wanted. I used them as a form of self-care and nurturance. I used them as a reward for small successes like getting through a hard day, being good all day long, getting a new class or a new client, or simply to congratulate myself for gathering up the energy to clean the house.
Triggered by any kind of stress, aversion to discomfort or negative thinking, I’d instantly crave sugary food. I could easily deaden the present and even the past with an extra dose of cookies, a bag of chocolate and an extra-large, extra-cheese pizza. I’d continue eating until the disappointments, pain, overwhelmed feeling and heartache were masked by the feeling of being stuffed. Then I’d keep going.
I remember sitting on my couch one day in May and admitting out loud, “I need help, and I’m ready. Please help me.” Then I instantly thought of a friend who was doing SHAPE herself and I could see the results she achieved in her body and her energy. I decided to try it.
When I came to SHAPE, I was completely unhappy in my body and mind. I was at least 60 pounds overweight and suffering from joint pain, poor sleep, anxiety and depression. I felt miserable.
After just a week on SHAPE, I noticed my sleep improved, my inflammation was reduced, my mood was stable, and I had shed more pounds than expected, which motivated me to continue. I was genuinely excited to prepare delicious, healthy meals and to discover new recipes that nourished my body. I also noticed how satisfied I felt after eating real foods that supported my wellbeing.
It’s been over two years, and I am proud to say I am still living a SHAPE lifestyle. I am sugar free and now experience tremendous ease and lightness in my body. Being on SHAPE is truly a gift that has taught me to listen to the intelligence of my body and trust myself again. I am beyond grateful!!!
Six years ago, on a routine visit with Dr. Amy Pike, I inquired about a program she had displayed at her office. She took the time to explain how this new way of eating would enhance my life. I decided to give it a chance and found that she was absolutely correct.
After becoming a widow, my eating habits had deteriorated, and I gained quite a bit of weight. I knew I needed help but didn’t know where to turn. Dr. Amy introduced me to this program, which I started and followed diligently. With my history of trying weight-loss programs in the past, I thought I would feel deprived; however, I found this not to be the case.
My health improved as I enjoyed more energy and stamina. I do volunteer work almost every day, and I found it much easier to move and handle the quick pace that’s required. I also noticed the change in my body (no more saddlebags). Shopping and trying on clothes became enjoyable again. My total weight reduction is 60 pounds, and I can happily report I have kept it off.
I started this plan without telling my family members, as they were in another state. The first time my daughter and daughter-in-law saw me, they were blown away by the results. They both decided to give the program a try and have also had the same amazing success. We are now a family with better eating habits and fuller lives. We have even been able to stay on the plan while hosting family parties.
I would recommend this program to anyone looking to improve their health and way of life. My deepest gratitude to Dr. Amy Pike for the encouragement and gentle nudge to start on this positive lifelong path.
I thought I’d always be the “fat one” at my CrossFit gym. I was working out like crazy and eating a perfect paleo diet, but I wasn’t seeing any difference. I could increase the number of workouts, the time, the intensity, the weights, etc. but nothing ever worked. I did the paleo challenge at the gym every time it was held, and I participated in several back-to-back CrossFit team competitions, which required an additional layer of intense team-based training. It was super frustrating to put in that kind of time and effort but not see what I wanted … a loss of fat!
When Dr. K started offering SHAPE in his clinic, he did an inflammation workshop and explained how it affects the body. I went to the workshop and was interested, but I wasn’t sure it was for me. However, after putting in as much effort as I had with very little to show, I decided to give it a shot.
When I started the program, Dr. K highly recommended taking photos, measurements and weights throughout my journey to monitor my progress. I’m glad I did! The drop in weight and measurements over the first two months was amazing. I was finally getting somewhere!
Just when things were going really well, I suffered a few setbacks in my subsequent two cycles of SHAPE. My third was okay, but my fourth was turning into a disaster. Dr. K recommended I stop Phase I, try to take as much of what I learned and apply it to daily lifestyle, and start back when I was ready to stay strict.
It worked! After taking several weeks off, I started back and did two more very successful cycles of Phase I before switching off to Phase II/III before the holidays. After the holidays, I was ready to start back to Phase I and was able to continue straight through to the one-year mark in April.
During the program, I had been taking photos on a monthly basis, wearing the same clothes and trying to stand in the same position. The difference was amazing! I was extremely embarrassed to put photos like this on Facebook, but I decided I had to. I wanted others to know about the program and see the results. I was down 59 lbs and 89 total inches. I was really hoping to say it was an even 60lbs, but I didn’t want stretch the truth.
It’s been one year since that post on Facebook, and the pounds have stayed off! I transitioned to Phase II/III and stayed there for several months. As of April 2017, I’m about to start another cycle of Phase I and take it even further.
Overall, SHAPE has been an amazing program! Not only did I shed weight, but my workouts are better, I have more energy, I feel better, my digestion improved and I learned a ton along the way. There were times when it was tough to hang in, but I’m so glad I did! Thank you, SHAPE!
I heard about SHAPE ReClaimed from my sister-in-law who had been doing the program for several months and seemed to be getting along quite well. After talking with her and checking out the SHAPE website, I decided that SHAPE ReClaimed was likely the best program for me and made my initial appointment.
While I did not have any major health concerns and was not on any medications at the time, I was well aware of how much my weight had been creeping up, not to mention my blood pressure was on the rise. I have a family history of heart issues, as my father had a heart attack in his early 60s and my mother had multiple bypasses. I knew that I did not want to end up like them, and wanted to be as healthy as possible for my grandchildren.
I started my journey weighing 199 pounds. My job is very stressful, and I seemed to have let stress dictate my life and my food choices. I felt tired most of the time, both of my knees hurt, and I just didn’t have much get-up-and-go. SHAPE was structured, which I liked and needed, and I received great support from my practitioner. She always knew just what I needed to keep things moving in the right direction. I loved the lists of what to eat because I didn’t have to read tons of labels or count points or calories. Instead, I eat the amounts of food that the book said to eat. It’s that simple.
I had my Phase III appointment just a few days ago, and I maintained my weight of 131 throughout Phase II. I was nervous to add foods back in, but I did add some things in, and I still felt great and maintained my weight.
Overall, I am down 68 pounds, 65.25 inches total. I can say that I am 63 years old and I feel like I’m 50! My knees no longer hurt, I am no longer short of breath, and I have energy to do all kinds of things, including jog with the dog when we go on walks. I absolutely love this program and everything I have learned about myself and how to eat. I look forward to continuing to eat clean and hope to continue to find new dishes for my family to eat as well!
The first time I heard of SHAPE, it was from a friend who had dropped 105 pounds. I have struggled with my weight for most of my life. I would fluctuate between being 20 to 50 pounds overweight. I did not have the motivation for yet another “diet.” Little did I know, SHAPE is a journey, not a diet. I have tried every diet out there, one of them numerous times. Foods that other people could eat would make me gain weight. I knew I needed more than a diet. SHAPE was literally an answer to my prayers.
I found Dr. Shaquala Reese online and read the SHAPE information. She is the closest practitioner to my home. When I realized that I pass her office twice daily for work, I knew I had to make an appointment.
Dr. Reese and her staff were very supportive all throughout my journey. I have never lost weight from the inside out before. I have never felt deprived when eating SHAPE-approved foods. Eating real food never tasted so good.
As a result, I added years to my life along with the bonus of shedding 33 pounds. I am 65 years old, feel 20 years younger and can run circles around the 30- and 40-somethings at work. SHAPE has changed my life! I plan on continuing on to even better health with the SHAPE program for the rest of my life.
Obviously, one of the coolest parts about SHAPE is how fast people are able to come off their insulin and reduce their diabetic medication. We had a husband and a wife start SHAPE last Monday, and they came in for their first follow-up yesterday. We answered all their questions that came up, and at the end, they said, “Oh, we almost forgot to tell you. We had to lower our dog’s insulin medication.” And I said, “What do you mean?” They replied that their dog always eats their table scraps, and now with them eating healthier food, their dog is eating healthy table scraps, so they’ve been able to reduce his insulin. I just found this to be too great, and I have been sharing it with everyone!
