Female, age 73 – Type 2 diabetes, neuropathy, asthma, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, arthritis, headaches

Patricia is a 73-year old female who presented with obesity, Type 2 diabetes, diabetic neuropathy, asthma, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, chronic joint pain, arthritis, and chronic headaches.

Her medications include Metformin, Glimepiride, blood pressure medication, asthma inhaler, and some anti-inflammatories. We recommended that she do a hair analysis to evaluate her metabolic, endocrine, and inflammatory markers. She was found to have issues with the Autonomic Nervous System, dehydration, and glycation issues. We treated those with supplements and also prescribed the SHAPE Program

Within the first week, she cut her Glimepiride in half and lost 4.8 pounds.

The second week, she reported that she was now sleeping through the night, her headaches have been eliminated, and she has cut her blood pressure medication in half and reduced the Glimepiride even further.

The third week, she had lost a total of 9.2 pounds and has reduced her Metformin by half.

The fourth week, she has eliminated the Metformin and Glimepiride completely, cut her blood pressure medication in half again, and is off her inhaler as well as anti-inflammatory medication.

Patricia is now in her 3rd month of the SHAPE Program and is off all medication and has lost over 20 pounds. She has reported as having no headaches, much less joint pain, and her blood pressure is completely normal. She will continue in Phase I, until her goals have been met and then transition into Phase II and Phase III to maintain her new sustainable, healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Todd’s Teaching Assessment

Speed is the operative word in this teaching assessment. I am and always have been amazed by the speed at which the body can change. Even without significant weight loss, notice the dramatic effect lifestyle modification has on metabolic function. I am not sure if her M.D. recommended lowering her prescriptions or if she just listened to her body.

In the Old Testament, it states we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” This case study is a testament to that verse!
