Crockpot – Swiss Steak

Swiss Steak
  • 2 lbs round steak, ¾ inch thick
  • 2 tsp dry mustard
  • 1½ tsp salt
  • 0.13 tsp pepper
  • 2 cups onion, sliced
  • 1 cup celery chopped
  • 1 med green or red bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans tomatoes diced
  • 2 Tbsp coconut aminos
  • 1 - 8 oz carton mushrooms, sliced
  1. Cut steak into 8 serving-size portions.
  2. Season steak with dry mustard, salt and pepper, and tenderize
  3. Slice onions, chop celery and bell pepper, mince garlic, and set aside in a bowl.
  4. Slice mushrooms and set aside in another bowl In a large, non-stick frying pan, brown meat, and transfer to Crockpot.
  5. In same frying pan, sauté onions, celery, red pepper, and garlic (may need to add small amount of water or chicken broth—I use broth-- to deglaze pan).
  6. Add tomatoes and Worcestershire sauce and stir together.
  7. Pour over meat.
  8. Sauté mushrooms in a little water or chicken broth.
  9. Pour mushrooms over contents of slow cooker, cover and turn Crockpot on to low.
  10. Cover and cook on low, 4 to 6 hours on low, or until tender.
